What this episode covers

Map first, then go

Hold off on learning tools for now. This episode puts everything you'll learn in order, so you can follow along without detours.

This first episode doesn't rush into any particular tool. It lays out a road map first: 4 chapters and 19 lessons, from making sense of the jargon and getting to know the tools, to building things yourself, and finally learning to check whether things actually got better.

It also covers how to learn: 30–45 minutes a day. Read the idea, look at the illustration, click through it once yourself, and write down what tripped you up. Clicking through once doesn't mean getting it right; it means running into at least one error with your own hands.

The episode's bad example is frantically hitting refresh at an error message. The better way: take a screenshot, note what you typed and when, then look at it calmly. And why stick to one project the whole way through? Because with five going at once, when something breaks you have no idea which screw came loose.

    “Explain this”

The explanation is packed with new jargon, and the more you read, the more lost you get.

Say thisSwap the [ ] part for yours

Pretend I've never heard of [this concept]. Explain it with an everyday example in under 120 words. Then give me one quick question to check whether I really got it.
