Compress images

Compresses images to WebP or PNG, and can handle a whole folder at once.

Good for: People whose images are too big to upload

Read this first: By default it replaces the originals with the compressed files. Say so if you want to keep the originals.

What you can do once it's installed

Just say the “You say to AI” line, with your own details swapped in.

Compress a whole folder

You say to AI

Compress all the images in the photos folder to WebP, including subfolders, and keep the originals.

What AI does

  1. 1.Picks a compression tool that works on your computer
  2. 2.Handles the subfolders too
  3. 3.Keeps the originals

What you get

A WebP version next to every image, plus a report of the sizes before and after.

Keep it as PNG

You say to AI

This screenshot is too big. Make it smaller but keep it as a PNG, and keep the original.

What AI does

  1. 1.Compresses it as a PNG
  2. 2.Tells you the size before and after

What you get

A smaller PNG screenshot, with the original still there.

How to install

Which AI tool do you use?

  1. 1. Open the Terminal app on your computer, paste the line below and press Enter

    npx skills add JimLiu/baoyu-skills@baoyu-compress-image -g

With no tool name, the command looks for the AI tools on your computer and asks where to install. If it says npx is missing or too old, install the latest Node.js (22 or newer) first.

    First time using the terminal?
    • How to open it: on a Mac, press ⌘ + Space and search “Terminal”. On Windows, search “PowerShell” in the Start menu. In Cursor, Trae or VS Code, use the menu Terminal → New Terminal.
    • Windows says “running scripts is disabled”: change npx at the start of the command to npx.cmd and try again.
    • If a list pops up: move with the arrow keys, press Space to tick the tools you want, then press Enter.
    • How to tell it worked: you'll see a success message. Reopen your AI tool and ask “What Skills do you have now?” to check.

Don't feel like opening a terminal?

Tools like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Trae can run commands themselves. Send them this:

Please run this command in my terminal and tell me how it went: npx skills add JimLiu/baoyu-skills@baoyu-compress-image -g
  2. 2. Reopen your AI tool

New Skills only get picked up after a restart.

  3. 3. Just say what you want

Say it the way the examples do. To call it by name, say “Use baoyu-compress-image to help me…”.
